Skatefest 2013 presented by
Fairfax Surf Shop and Wakefield Skate Park


FAIRFAX, Va., April 29, 2013 -- Skaters from all over Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and other east coast states will travel to Wakefield Skate Park June 21 and 22 to participate in the 7th Annual SkateFest. The festival celebrates National Go Skateboarding Day and raises money for Children's National Medical Center in Wash., D.C. SkateFest has activities for everyone whether its skating for a cause, participating in the skate competition or simply enjoying the festival supporting Children's National.


SkateFest is a two-day event beginning on Friday with preliminary rounds and the two main festival events on Saturday. Skateboarders of all ages and all skill levels will kick off Saturday by participating in Sk8 for a Cause to raise money for Children's National. Sponsored participants will skate a check-pointed route through Wakefield Skate Park receiving free prizes as they ride along the route. The five-event skate competition will succeed Sk8 for a Cause along with a festival.


Previous SkateFest events have featured hundreds of participants ranging in ages from 5-50. More than $30,000 has been raised for Children's National through the festival's philosophy of kids raising money for kids. The festival will be packed with music, food, family-friendly activities, vendors and thousands of dollars in prizes and giveaways. The festival also gives skaters a chance to showcase themselves and even try out for the Fairfax Surf Shop skate team.


The preliminary rounds of the skateboard competition will take place Friday 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. with registration beginning at 3 p.m. at Wakefield Skate Park. Sk8 for a Cause registration and check-in will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
